What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is "Paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally” (Jon Kabat-Zinn).

You may be asking, What is it I should be paying attention to?  Its everything within your mind’s present moment experience but using a fuller sense of mind that includes:

  • body - physical discomfort, pleasurable sensations, tweaks, aches

  • senses - touch, smell, sight, sound, taste

  • emotions - moods, feelings, emotional states

  • thoughts - memories, plans, images, chatter

Mindfulness is an experiential practice, we can’t ‘do’ our way to being mindful rather we need to ‘be’ through observing our moment by moment experience of these four aspects with an open, kind and curious attitude.
